AIDI (Atlas Shepherd Dog)

Country of origin: Morocco

The Aidi is the national breed of Morocco. He has an european background, but is nowadays wel adjusted to his job in Northern Africa. He is a typical watchdog, but his way of working is slightly different from what is common in Europe with similar dogs. The Aidi guards and defends his properties like his boss wishes. This can be cattle, a campsite, camels and other posessions. He is a very competent, tough and brave watchdog. The breed is also used as a policedog. 

The Aidi is a medium-sized, rustic and agile dog with lots of confidence. He is powerful without being heavily built. 

Head: broad and flat skull with a  rather flat stop, light occipital protuberance, the snout is somewhat shorter than the skull, strong jaws. Black or brown rhinarium in harmony with the colour of the coat. Dry, black or brown lips. 

Teeth: carnassial of pincer teeth

Eyes: middlesized, darker than the coat with pigmented eyeborders. Lively and examining expression. 

Ears: medium length, slightly rounded tips, beginning rather far behind on the skull. They beginn straight up and start bowing forward from the middle. 

Neck: powerful, muscled and dry 

Body: deep, long and moderate broad chest with slightly curved ribs. Slightly rissen stomachline. Broad and muscled back, powerfull and slightly curved lumbar region, slightly bowed backline without giving the impression of a swayback. 

Limbs: strong shoulders, strong and muscled fore and hindlegs with rather open angulation. The hindside os the legs is feathery. 

Tail: beginning in line with the back, long and with very luxuriant hair. Must go till right under the hock. At rest it is carried saber, in movement higher, but never over the back. 

Feet: round, with strong nails and soles

Coat: very thick, about 6 cm long. In the face en on the ears the coat is short and fine. On and around the neck it should form a collar. This is most developed by male dogs. The coat is very important as protection against heath and cold. 

Colour: white or cream, wolfgrey or white with gry marks. 

Size: 52-62 cm
