GeneralBARBET
Country of origin: France
Short history of the breedThe Barbet has got his name from the French barbe, which
means beard. It is a very old breed and his ancestors belong to the fifteenth and sixteenth century waterdogs, this means dogs who had a job working at and in the water and it's main job was to hunt and apport birds. These dogs were and still are present in Middle European countries. His special luxuriant and waterresistant coat gives the Barbet the opportunity to work in cold water during a long period of time. He is chearful, willing to work and learns easily. Except an allround birddog who loves water he is also a very pleasant companion dog. Unfortunately nowadays there is very little breeding material and he is seen rarely outside his land of origin.
