Short history of the breedThe Alpin Dachsbracke was developed from Austrian drivers. The goal was to achieve a slow driving dog, who was at the same time so high on his legs that he could work in high en difficult areas. The breed reminds very much at his family of Laufhunde, in Switserland but is more robust. He has a loud bark and is usually used for the hunt on rabbit, fox and deer. We hardly see him outside his land of origin.
Description of the breedThe Alpin Dachsbracke is a middle sized, rectangular hunting dog with a robust body. He is strong and persistent.
Head: slightly wedge-shaped, with somewhat curved skull, flat rhinarium and striking stop. The snout is a little longer than the skull. Black
rhinarium, dry and well pigmented lips.
Eyes: middle sized, dark, with an observing and calm expression.
Ears: are set on rather at the back of the skull, large and broad, with rounded tips.
Teeth: carnassial
Neck: moderate long, well muscled with some throat skin.
Body: compact and powerful, with a straight back. Well muscled, short and broad lumbars. Long and broad chest with a striking forechest. Slightly risen stomachline.
Limbs: good angulation of shoulder and upperarm, straight forelegs with good bone. Wel angulated quarterhind with broad, well muscled thighs.
Feet: powerful, well closed en curved, with resilient and strong soles.
Tail: well set in line with the back, rather long, hairy and a little brushy.
Gait: with a full trot.
Coat: rather thick skin with a luxuriant undercoat and hard coverhair. The length of the coat on the top of the body must be 3-5 cm.
Colour: dark deer red with or without light black hair. With markt are not desirable.
Size: male 37-38 cm, female 36-37 cm.
