General ANGLO-FRANÇAIS DE PETITE VÉNERIE
Country of origin: France
Short history of the breed. Many of the french hunting dogs were and are still held in so called packs, who hunt together. People made a difference between individuals but selected the dogs on their hunting qualities, without taking in account there origin. In 1957 they decided to make an inventory of the dogs and tried to arrange them to their breed of origin. This resulted in the name Anglo Francais for dogs from an english-french origin and Chien Francais for dogs from an obvious french origin. The Anglo Francais de Petite Venerie is a combination of little french hunting dogs, like the d'Artois Francais and the english Beagle. They developed a smaller dog who is usually used for the hunt on small game. The breed is rather unknown outside of France.
