Short history of the breed.The breed is a combination of terrier and bulldog, with the
intent to get a dog with the temperament of the terrier and the courage and the endurance of the bulldog. It was recognized by th AKC in 1935. Nowadays the American Staffordshire Terrier is calm, reliable and a excellent watch dog with a lot of authority and charisma.
Breed descriptionThe American Staffordshire Terrier must be short and powerful,
with a moderate long and deep head, broad skull, pronounced stop and very well developed cheek muscles. The snout moderate length with somewhat convexe nose ridge, strong jaws, black rhinarium.
Eyes: dark, round ,deep, set on far apart
Ears: Must be short, until the half straight up.
Teeth: carnassial
Neck: moderate length, dry, powerful, a litlle bent
Body: short back, slightly inclined from the shoulder to
the root, lumbars risen, deep, lang, broad chest with well formed ribs.
Limbs: powerful, muscled, well set behind shoulders.
Straight forelegs, strong, round bones. Vertical front. Normal angulated, musceled parallel hindelegs, low set hock.
Feet: moderate size, well closed, compact and resilient.
Tail: short, set on low. May not be carried curly over the back.
Gait: lively, powerful, resilient.
Coat: short, shiny, stiff and hard
Colour: all colours are permitted
Size: male 46-48 cm, female 43-46 cm.
