Short history of the breed:The Akhal-Teke is a very old breed, related to the ancient Turkoman horse that was the preferred horsteof Eastern warriors. They were bred primarely as racehorses and the modern Akhal-Teke is used for racing. The Akhal-Teke is a unique breed with many of the characteristics of the Horse Type 3, which points to its very early development. The horse is capable of great endurance and stamina and to cope with the extremes of heat and cold. It is believed to be related to the Arabian breed.
Description of the breed:Head: finely modelled,
Eyes: big with lots of expression
Ears: long.
Body: very long and slender through the frame, long and muscular neck, shoulders are sloping, deep chest, withers are high, back is long with a shallow rib case, the croup is often slightly sloping and is mucular and powerful. Long in the leg and have fine bone, the legs are extremely tough and hard with well-formed hard feeth
Coat: the coat is thin
Colour: dun, palomino, chestnut, golden, silver, gray
Movement: soft gait
Shoulder height: between 1,45 en 1,57 m
Possibiliets for use: riding horse
Charakter:The Akhal-Teke is a good riding horse with a brave temperament, they have great strength and endurance but are known to be wilful at times
