Short history of the breed:The American Saddlebred has many similarities with the Tennessee walking horse. The American Saddlebred originated in the 19th century in the areas around Kentucky. They were originally developed as an all-round versatile utility horse by the pioneers of Kentucky, using a cross primarily of Narragansett Pacer and
Canadian pacer, both of which are now extinct. They are perhaps the most famous of the American gaited horses and have acquired most of their reputation through their exhibitions in the showring.
Description of the breed:Head: small, with straight profile
Eyes: with lots of expression
Nose: big, sensitive noseholes
Body: muscular neck set high onto the shoulders aiding the elevated action, broad chest, well sprung rib cage, level croup with the tail well-set and nicked to produce high carriage. The legs are slender and long with well-defined tendons and sloping paterns.
Movement: shows a lot of action, the Saddlebred dances. Some Saddlebred horses have five different actions, others three.
Colour: any solid colour is permissible, but chestnut is predominant
Shoulder height: 1,55 m
Possibilities for use: thee Saddlebred is mostly used as showhorse
Charakter:The American Saddlebred is a very good riding horse with an extremely friendly temperament. They are very willing and calm as well as energetic and have good stamina and endurance.
