Short history of the breed:The Azteca is a very modern breed which was developed in Mexico in 1972 through the efforst of several Mexican organizations. They have been selectively bred since 1972 and there are strict breeding codes. They have evolved through crossbreeding Andalusian stallions with Qarter Horse mares or vice versa, or by crossing Andalusian stallions with Criollo mares. The crossbreeding has been very scientifically researched. The offspring must always be six-eights or less of any of the individual breeds. In 1992 the International Azteca Horse Association was set up to oversee the succes and development of the breed.
Breed description:Head: attractive Spanish type
Eyes: friendly
Ears: small
Body: muscular neck, well set on and gently arched, nicely sloping shoulders, deep and wide chest, prominent withers, straight back, muscular hindquarters, strong and sturdy legs with good joints, well-formed feet
Colour: every whole colour permitted
Shoulder height: 1,50 - 1,52 m
Possibilities for use: under the saddle, competitive field, light farm work
Charakter:Very good temperament, quit, intelligent, energetic and willing
